A Midsummer Night´s Dream

Greetings to you all, dears.
I hope you are having the most wonderful of the summers. In my case, this period is being a very relaxing one after a good quantity of crazy months. At the beginning of the summer I began working in a new teaching assistant position, but now I got my vacational break and can really enjoy of some (well-deserved) spare time.

And what does free time mean to me
Oh, that´s a good question: First of all, means unlimited time for reading and writing; yes, just for the mere pleasure of doing it. I´ve told you too many times I am a bookworm and yes, I am even proud of it. So I am spending great and mad quantities of time with Lovecraft, Lumley, Prize etc. Of course, some of those reading will be handy in the future for my bibliography but right now I am just enjoying.

I also found time enough to liberate some of my creative power beyond literature and study. I´ve been making some ornaments myself, such as necklances, brooches and ribbons. You can see a couple of examples above. The pendant was made using one of my spinal bone earrings, which were far too big and heavy for me. The ribbon is just a little piece of velvet, a cameo and one hair pin. Easy, isn´t it? I always enjoy by recycling old useless materials that I have at home.

I am spending some quality time with friends and The Gentle One.
In the last few weeks we went out for outdoors walk frequently. It´s nice to feel the fresh air on your skin, even if you are not a big fan of summer baking temperatures. I tend to develop a huge allergy because of the pollen but in the last times I just discovered many natural remedies against it, as the tea flowers in the picture. I have to thank my friend Morgan for that, she was the one to teach me how to use herbal remedies as a medicine instead of dozens of pills.

Oh, and of course we finally went to watch Prometheus together.
I have a couple of things to say about it:
The visual level (photography and artistic conception) is great. Giger does its job masterfully. However, the film falls apart towards the second half. There are times of little or no credibility, and a total lack of connection and coherence. The first half is quite acceptable, with moments of genuine and classic science fiction, but the desenlace quite goes forced and "commercial" with moments taken from any action movie. As for the actors, the interpretation of "David" is wonderful and does not detract some of his predecessors in the original series. "Shaw" is admissible the most of the time, but falls frequently over-acting and compunction. Overall I give it a six and a half.

Anyway, darlings, I hope you do have a great summer break full of  special moments.

  1. I see that you had a wonderful vacation. I haven't got the time to read so much as you, thats a pity. Your hairbow and necklace are beautifully made. I'll hope I have the chance to se Prometheus soon.

    1. Reading is one of my favourite things in the whole world, so I feel really distressed when cannot find proper quantities of time for it.

Thanks a lot for the compliments. I am trying to improve with my craft skills :)

  2. Clever you, the hair clip and necklace you made/recycled are gorgeous! I actually have the Restyle spine earrings, and yes they are a bit heavy, what a fantastic idea to make it into a necklace! It looks so pretty! I might buy another pair and try my hand at making one! I do love walks in the Summer time when it's not too hot, one of the few things I do like about Summer! ♥

    1. Thank you, dear. Nice to see you liked them, and it is really easy to turn the earrings into something else, so don´t hesitate to try.

Summer walks and picnics are another highlight in the summer. But I don´t like it when it´s baking either.

  3. I know what you mean about the ReStyle ribcage earrings being heavy - I love them to bits but I also find them heavy so I can only wear them out for short periods of time as I don't want sagging earlobes! They are still beautiful for a night out though!

I love the hair bow that you made - a great idea indeed!

I too am a massive bookworm, there is nothing better than losing yourself in a book when you have some time to kill! Enjoy your summer break! xxx

  4. Oh free time, hardly comes and goes very easily! If only the holidays could last forever!:) The cameo is fantastic and the necklace it was a clever idea! Not to waste the good part of the earring!! I didn't read the Prometheus paragraph cause i didn't see it yet, even if M. Fassbender is in it :) Enjoy your summer and hope to energize your batteries for the winter ^^ A book is always a great company and the best friend a human can have!!!!! A lot of kisses dear!!

    1. Oh, I love holidays but maybe we would not appreciate them properly if we were always free. This makes me think about The Thief of Always by Clive Barker, where every kid enjoys a perpetual (and scary) vacation :P

  5. I couldn't agree with you more about Prometheus, Violette. It was so close to being perfect at the start that it was almost tragic to see it fall apart in the second half. To be honest, I lost it when they used a young dude in old man make-up for the hologram of Weyland instead of just... you know, using an old man! All those beautiful visuals and they ruin it by having a character whose make-up is so bad he's not even believable as a human being.

Ok, I'm going to stop now because I think I take scifi way to seriously! Haha x

    1. It was a little tragedy, indeed. Well, I was said that it is just the first part of a new trilogy, so maybe the next ones will be better. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed as well. And yes, the old-makeup-thing was so stupid! They should fire the makeup artist!

Don´t worry about taking it too serious, I am exactly like that! Hahahah.

  6. Dont know why, but your blog sometimes doesnt show up in my updates, it doest happen to few blogs I like, so annoying, because I tend to miss new posts. But anyway, I appreciate comments I get from you, as I feel you really bother, and you never write silly things just to leave a comment without any meaning. I follow many blogs myself and keep fogetting to check all of them at times, and it makes me feel bad, as I found so many nice people on blogger, you are one of them.
I also love your style, it reminds me a bit of how I looked 10 years ago. I only regret I wasnt more brave, but I loved my black clothes a lot, still do, but I also love vntage style, its a nice thing, but sometimes I regret Im not a gothic lady anymore. Changes are good, but you cant go back, you know what I mean?
If it comes to free time and reading I just realised I dont read much lately, I have loooads of books prepared to read, but I usually leave them until I travel to see my boyfriend and read them on a plane or at the airport, I find very difficult to be focused while Im reading, I have that issue since I remember. Im reading and then Im starting to think about something, and before I realise Im not focused at all. So annoying!
But anyway, I love cameo bow you made, I like to make jewellery and other accessories sometimes, but they dont look as god as yours ;) Have a lovely day!

    1. Oh God, your comment has been so touching. Thank you very much for your nice words Vivian, It feels good to know that there is so warming people around blogger.

I know exactly what you mean about changes. Even when I´ve been feeling comfortable with goth for the last ten years, my style has been evolving. For example, many years ago I was very fond of, let´s say, "hardcore" aesthetics. I used to wear spikes and that kind of stuff but it´s not working for me anymore. My style has developed into a more romantic dimension, so I totally agree with you. You can´t avoid changes. And about beeing brave, well, I like to think that people who really loves you are not going to judge you. Of course, dramatic changes can be a little shocking but that´s all.

By the way, I think that vintage would be the perfect option for me if had not fall in the "dark culture claws". In fact, I love to add small vintage touches to my outfits sometimes. I find vintage so classy and feminine. Because of that I adore reading you too :)

    2. No need to thank me, I just like when people leave me nice comments, its so good to meet to many people through blogger, you are one of then :)

Exactly! I remember when I started listening Marilyn Manson I dressed more like him, I was 17, but after some time I wanted to look more feminine, then I discovered his wife-that time Dita Von Teese, and I thought she looks great, as she liked to dress black that time, she was pale, but she was so elegant same time, so I got inspired. I love looking more original than other people, but I hate when they laugh at me, people dont understand. Right now I experiment more with my hair than with my style, I want to have white hair in some time, in winter maybe? We will see, its fun!

Awe, thank you :) Not people actually do read it, even if I have over 160 followers. Well, I think that mixing gothic style with vintage is great, I try that sometimes, I love to wear black clothes in autumn and winter, and I feel great being dressed a bit gothic a bit elegant :) Like Dita at times, but I just have almost blonde hair now, and that is also a good thing, I started loving a contrast between light hair and black clothes :)
