One of my favourite deviations hobbies consists on looking for places where I can sit, have a good cup of tea, and pretend I am the first beta-tester for a time machine prototype to be successfully transported to some point between 1900 and 1929. Well, yes, that can be considered a little weird, but you weren´t expecting anything different from me, were you?
This May Day was all about working on some essays, so on Friday The Gentle One and I decided to break the working routine to visit The Continental Hotel, where we could enjoy delicious afternoon tea for our semi-anniversary. In point of fact, our semi-anniversary is on Walpurgis, but we were so stressed, we totally forgot about it this year (oops!).
Consequently, I wore my best Edwardian outfit, adopted a very impractical Downton Abbey attitude and flee to the Victoria Club, a lovely tea room on the hotel down floor.
As you can probably feel in the pictures, there is something truly Victorian about the place. I suppose it is all about the mahony furniture and leather couchs. And of course, the best part is being treated as a lady by a butler who is there just to take your coat and bring a fine selection of teas for you to choose.
What else can you ask for?
Oh yes! Maybe some strawberry cheesecake and capuccino?
Actually, capuccino was for my man, as I usually prefer the sour tea to contrast the sweetness of cake.
I
don´t know why, but I find the flavor much more intense when after a
little piece of cake I also taste a bit of tea. I guess the contrast
plays as kind of a savor enhancer?
I think I could totally get used to live like this, but time travels have a limited a durations (yes, that´s a legal clause at any time-machine beta tester contract, you´re not supposed to interrumpt the normal development of historical event. Damn!) and we had to go back to 2014.
That was too bad!
Well, I will keep these pictures to remember how lovely was to live in 1910 for a couple of hours (that could have been more realistic without the noisy tv, though), and who knows? Maybe we will manage to make another time travel soon.
Tell me darlings, so you have any special secret deviations?
I also love going places where I can feel I am in a previous time, or timeless places like a garden! You look lovely, I wish I could have my own copies of some of the clothes from your beautiful wardrobe!
ResponderEliminarI always like to drink tea with my dessert too, although my preferred tea is peppermint.
It is a shame they have the TV there, it would be perfect otherwise. Once we went to a restaurant where they had the big wall TV on trashy shows all through dinner, it made the place much less classy, we never went there again.
Aw! That was very nice form you. Actually, they are not specially expensive clothes, normally. I just go windowshopping once in a while and always look for the most strangely-designed dress. The more unusal, the better. That´s my rule ;)
EliminarSuch a gorgeous place. Those leather couches, i wish one day to have a full set of them in my living room *dreaming*. I do enjoy doing the same as well, it's a wonderful feeling!! And i love strawberry cakes (or anything with strawberries to be correct). You look stunning in that gorgeous dress and such a lovely fit with the place. It feels like a room from Titanic. ^-^
ResponderEliminarIf I only could afford a living room like this at home... well, maybe as the time goes by it will be more than a dream. Let´s be patient, that´s the secret of life.
EliminarSuch a lovely outfit and the food looks delicious!
ResponderEliminarThank you for the nice words and pelase, be very welcome to my blog :)
EliminarThe TV in the background spoils the whole perfect mood of that place :( Why don't they put an antique radio or a gramophone there?... Oh, and about my sercet deviations... Apart from something very similar to Your, that is, time travelling ;) I, ehem.... love to sit outside, surrounded by nature and TOUCH THE LEAVES. Really, have you ever noticed how different textures they have? How ideally delicate they are? How soft and nice some of them are? Leaves are gorgeous! :D (Lying in the grass and embracing the ground is also great ^^)
ResponderEliminarAs a child, I used to lie on the grass myself until I learnt it was all full of little living creatures which liked to have a walk through my hair. That was the end of my love story with the grass. However, I am still fond of picnics, as long as I have a blanket everything is fine :P
EliminarSuch a beautiful dress!
ResponderEliminarI have been craving a real afternoon tea in quite a while now.
Thanks, I always enjoy in the search of strange clothing like this :)
